Holy Trinity Garden Party
Wow! Let’s do it all again! The Holy Trinity Church garden party which was held on Saturday 17th July attracted a steady flow of visitors between 11am and 4pm despite the mixed weather.
The day’s festivities had a good start with an amusing heralding by Knaresborough’s town crier followed by the official opening by the Mayor Richard Hall and Lady Mayoress Rachael Hall with Scooby Doo alongside.
Many children (and some adults) had an uplifting experience as they submitted themselves to the bouncy castle. It takes more energy than you think,…..but for those recovering, or just enjoying the delicious food, drink and company, there was a wide range of refreshments in the hall. Many helpers had worked so hard in advance and on the day to ensure there was something for everyone. The stalls, games and competitions all did well and gave ample opportunity for social chat at the same time as a bit of excitement.
A main event of the day was the teddy bears’ picnic – with specially prepared sandwiches (not all marmite) followed by judging of teddy bears and prizes. There were also displays of the Meadowside School poster competition in the hall – thank you to all the creative and artistic pupils of Meadowside.
We were supported by The Hearing Dogs who had a stall of all things imaginable. Shirley Vine, a well-known local artist, held an exhibition of her work in the church giving us all chance to realise her wonderful talent and see her at work.
Skilful face-painting successfully disguised our vicar, Rev. Esther, and a few other local rogues. Thankfully the paint did come off before the next day’s church service!
We had a wonderful time and raised £1,000, which provided an excellent start towards the raising of some £65,000 for replacement heating in the church. Yes, a warm welcome is what we try to offer. To all those who were involved in organising, helping, visiting and enjoying the experience – a big THANK YOU! To those who weren’t involved or missed the event – hard luck! We’re disappointed you missed out this time but do look out for us again next year around the same time.
