How did we remember and celebrate Holy Week and EasterThe Goldsborough, Easter Extravaganza
The Goldsborough, Easter Extravaganza was a really fun family day for all the family. Easter Bonnett competition, Bouncy Castle, Egg and Spoon Races, Easter Egg Hunt, loads of different stalls, barbeque, Vintage Cars, Fire Engine and The Goldsborough Church of England Primary School gave an excellent performance of the bongo drums. It really was a very enjoyable day. I was also there meeting and greeting people with my puppets and was quick to enlist the help of one of the Goldsborough Church Wardens, Alan Bolton. Alan, Reverend John Bullamore and Horlix (the bear) were found to be enjoying another aspect that was available on the day too. The day's event took place in the grounds of The Bay Horse in Goldsborough to whom we are very grateful. Send us your witty caption to accompany this photo. If you have some photos which you think might be useful for the Caption Competition then why not send them to me at horlix@aol.com Darryl Hall (web-master).
Brearton Easter Celebrations Egg Rolling
After rolling our hard boiled, painted eggs in the snow last Easter Day we were rewarded with a crisp bright sunny day this year. There were prizes for the best decorated egg which was a tie between the two girls pictured above and then the under 8's and over 8's had separate races down the slope of the village green to the muddy puddle at the bottom. Of course everyone who took part won a prize and no one cheated!!!!
There are only 42 households in the immediate village so we were delighted that 30 people from 12 of these families came along to join in our Easter celebration.

Churches Together Easter Club A great example of how the Methodist, United Reformed Church, Roman Catholic and Anglican churches in Knaresborough work well together. We see the value in all the traditions of our churches and celebrate our differences together. Darryl Hall. All the churches in Knaresborough got together to organise an Easter Club for children in Knaresborough. They enjoyed 3 mornings of singing, crafts, stories, video and drama during the Easter holidays. Children were split into different colour groups and learnt about Old Testament Superheroes, and Jesus, the greatest Superhero of them all. The children decorated shields to represent their superhero. And on Friday morning, everyone came together to share their superhero stories. Highlights included a juggling storyteller, making popcorn decorating shields to represent the superheroes and coming together on Friday morning to share the superhero stories with friends and family.
There is a “Superheroes” display, which includes the shields in St John’s Church June Graham.
Churches Together on Good Friday
We met around the market cross in Knaresborough armed with large, wooden crosses. I say armed because it was intended as an instrument of death. Our presence there reminded people of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made through his death on the cross. We handed out hot cross buns to passers-by and asked people if they would like us to pray for them about anything. I was amazed at how well received we were and how many people wanted prayers said for them. These prayers were written on small cards and then nailed to the wooden crosses. We will be praying these prayers in our churches over the next week. Darryl. |
