Brearton Weddings

Weddings are a village affair in Brearton. Being a small village weddings are few and far between. There have been three weddings this century and two of them this month, but memories are long and old traditions are revived. In Brearton the newly married couple are not allowed out of the churchyard until the children of the village have been paid enough to untie the church gates! Having first tied the gates closed they scramble to catch the money the bride and groom throw over the gate and then graciously open it for the couple to walk through.
